4:00pm Somatic Practices: Embodied Support for Resilience/Resistance with Amanda Franz
Guided consent-based somatic practices for nervous system stabilization, finding more embodied ease, and growing capacity to navigate our world.
90 minutes. Please bring/wear a mask.*
7:00pm SHAKE: the body knows best. With Amanda Franz
Shaking is part of our bodies natural processing response to stress/intense experiences/trauma. A “Shake” is a 60 minute durational practice of intentional shaking, supported by music, to release and “unfreeze” what might be stuck in our bodies. Expect an opening and closing circle with loud music during the Shake.
90 minutes. Covid testing highly recommended.
Saturday @ Access Café
10:30am Real Dialogue Demo with Abbi Jaffe
When being human, conflict is bound to happen. Real Dialogue offers skills and a way of talking that can shift difficult conversations into generative conflict and understanding. The skills of Real Dialogue are Speak for Yourself, Listen Mindfully and Remain Curious. Come out to watch a demo of Real Dialogue and ask questions of an experienced facilitator, Abbi Jaffe of The Everything Space.
12:30-1:30pm Nonviolence as a Political Strategy Discussion
Come learn about and discuss the 6 principles and 6 steps of a nonviolent strategy according to Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation. Facilitated by Fenix of the Peace & Justice Center (and Access). Please bring/wear a mask.
2:00pm Community Art Build
Tap in to your inner artist and come paint a Divine symbol of Liberation & Resilience, The Black Madonna, with creative fairy, Raph Draws.
3:30pm Kid-centered Singing Circle
Join Willow Wayfinder for songs and movement as we center our kids and offer songs of resistance from a Spotify playlist. Willow hopes this can become a regular gathering. Check out the playlist here.
5:00pm Community Potluck
Bring a dish to share. Please label with the ingredients. Raph of the Access Team is bringing “Soup Joumou” (aka Freedom Soup), a culinary delight and symbol of Haitian-Independence, traditionally eaten on January 1st to celebrate the country’s liberation from French colonial rule in 1804. L’union fait la force! 🇭🇹
8:00pm Variety Show with River’s Way (18+)
A variety show of drag, burlesque, live music, dance, and more! Drawing on the power of our collective joy, local artists come together to deliver a powerful evening of performance. Emcee’d by Raph. Produced by River’s Way Movement Studio. Sliding scale cover will be charged so performers can be compensated: $10-30.
Sunday @ Access Café
11:00am Working with Fascia for Healing
Practice breathing Loving Awareness into areas of resistance within the collective and individual body. Facilitated by Rhizome of Access Café. Participants are encouraged to where comfy clothing and bring a water bottle. No additional materials required.
1:00pm Transformative Justice & Pod-Mapping for Building
Collective Power with Amanda Franz
Come learn more about transformative justice and pod-mapping as frameworks and tools for addressing and preventing harm, violence, emergency or crisis in our community. Part educational, part practice, as we start creating our own pod maps.
90 minutes. Please bring/wear a mask.*
3:00pm Kid-centered Social hour
A time to casually gather in the café for kids and families. Arts & crafts materials will be available in the kids’ corner.
*Facilitator will test for this masked event and may, as needed in moments of facilitation, temporarily drop their mask to be able to support the group with vocal projection.
